About me
Suzanne King makes work at Manor farm in Stratton on the Fosse which is close to Bath. Her studio is set on a working farm, her husband Rob has a big farm and over a hundred sheep.
She hand throws on the wheel in white porcelain.
She first started working with clay in America when she was 20 years in a exchange part of her Fine Art BA. When she finished her studies she set up a pottery “Roma Jane Ceramics” and sold work in Yorkshire. She made terracotta slipware.
She moved to Hong Kong in 1997 and as part of her work with vulnerable adults taught pottery as part of work.
When she came back she was privileged to stay at Aldermaston Pottery for three months where she made woodfired tin ware.
In 2003 she completed a MA at Bath Spa University, where she first started working in porcelain with sculpture.
More recently she has taught and sold from the farm.
“I have visions of lots of family and friends making memories with my ceramics, living with them. I love making things that people like using or putting in their home. I am also a fine artist and paint and make sculpture, but for pots it’s a very intuitive thing. Vessels are made very physically – I used to be a dancer so I think a lot of my inspiration comes from letting the clay tell it’s own story.”
